THE CREST OF
WOODSMOKE LODGE
No.9317
In 1975 the then County Commissioner R W Bro Charles Connall Wilson PPGM (Derbys) discussed with other Brethren and proposed that a Lodge should be formed in the Spen Vale district of the Province of Yorkshire West Riding. Following further representations and meetings Woodsmoke Lodge No 9317 was consecrated on the 5th June 1989 with 34 founding members the majority of whom had connections with the Scouting Fraternity throughout the West Riding of Yorkshire. Each founding officer donated the collar and jewel of their respective office and Bradford Lodge No 5966 donated much of the "furniture"

The Lodge ritual is based on the "Old York Workings" as used by our Mother and sponsoring lodge Nelson of the Nile No 264.

The Lodge Emblem comprises of a smoking Campfire, the Square and Compasses and the Scouting Arrowhead. Our motto, "Who hath smelt wood smoke by twilight?" is taken from the poem "The Feet of the Young Men" by Rudyard Kipling.

The Lodge is a member of the Kindred Lodges Association.

On 28th September 1999 the Lodge banner was consecrated to celebrate the tenth anniversary.

Membership of the Lodge is not restricted only to those with scouting connections.

Meetings are held Fourth Tuesday - Feb, Mar, April (Uniform Meeting), June (Installation), Sept, Oct, Nov.
